Make sure you are using a company that is legal
Anyone who transports horses as part of their business using a horsebox over 3.5 tonnes is required by UK and EU Law to have either a Department of Transport Open Operator's Licence or a Restricted Operator's Licence together with MAFF/DEFRA Specific Authorisation Number. All RTA members are fully registered with the appropriate authorities. RTA members operate with reference to industry standard Terms and Conditions of Trading specific to racehorse transporters, approved by the UK Office of Fair Trading.
"The Vehicle Inspectorate has now impounded several hundred vehicles for operating without the correct licences."
"Horsebox owners could also have their vehicles impounded by the Vehicle Inspectorate and then scrapped or sold."
